Bio

The Owen James Harvey EP has been the result of a fulfilling year for the Nottingham born Singer/ Songwriter. Earlier this year Owen James Harvey flew to Nashville to write and record with some of ‘Music Cities’ finest songwriters.

The Nashville Sessions as the songs were collectively called, influenced the release of the EP. The tracks are a journey through Owen’s signature fusion of Country, Folk and Americana with which he has become instantly identifiable. The EP features Owen’s regular band musicians, The Adeys (Russ on Guitar and James on Bass), who were joined by Flow Toulman (drums), Stuart Knoaks (Keys) and Sam Proctor (violin), to give this release a lasting appeal, “We hauled ourselves up in a studio for four days… it was such an enjoyable process”.

Five tracks on the EP were mixed by renowned producer, Tony Platt (Bob Marley & The Wailers, Gary Moore, Iron Maiden, AC/DC and more) at The Shop in his resident studio at Strongroom, in the heart of London. ‘Till The Day I Die’ was born from the Nashville sessions. Co-written and recorded with Bobby Terry who has written hits for Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Lonestar, Alabama and many more. “Till The Day I Die was a track that seemed to write itself. I sat down with Bobby Terry in his studio and started with the hook, “It ain’t easy darling to understand the way…” the rest kind of fell into place”. The track was also mixed by Terry who uniquely plays every instrument on nearly everything he produces – not surprising as he also doubles up as a session guitarist for Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson and Uncle Kracker. ‘Till The Day I Die’ is the first single push from the EP.

Owen James Harvey’s early introduction to music was handed down to him by his uncles, who have always played in bluegrass bands. This genre was not something that the majority of Owen’s peers were listening to, but led to the discovery of Steve Earle, Bob Dylan and Ryan Adams. From those early days the seed was sown to lead Owen on his own voyage of musical discovery.

“Some of the most powerful songs are born out of adversity, so the relationships I’ve had in the past often mould the subject matter of the songs. What we have in the EP are six tracks that I am really proud of and excited to share, its vibrant and heartfelt”.
